Shadow Justice Secretary attends Wandsworth Concert

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Wandsworth, London, area recently celebrated the holiday season with a concert that featured the attendance of local government dignitaries.  The Right Honourable Sadiq Khan, Shadow Justice Secretary and MP for Tooting, London, and Councillor Adrian Knowles, Mayor of Wandsworth, were special invited guests with 150 members and friends who attended this musical tribute.

Mr Khan is Shadow Lord Chancellor and Shadow Secretary of State for Justice (with responsibility for political and constitutional reform), and was elected to the Shadow Cabinet on October 7th 2010.

The celebration featured the musical talents of Manna Road Gospel Choir, under the direction of Verona Briscoe and accompanied by full-time Latter-day Saint missionaries.  The programme consisted of readings and a variety of traditional Christmas carols.  At one point, musical instruments were handed to those in the congregation as they participated in singing “Feliz Navidad,” which generated much enjoyment from the group.

Towards the end of the presentation, both dignitaries spoke to the congregation, expressing gratitude for having been invited to the Christmas concert and speaking on service rendered to the community.  In closing remarks, Church leader, President Roderick Anatsui also spoke to the audience about service, encouraging those in attendance to find more opportunity to “go about doing good” for one another within the community.  In celebration of the Saviour’s birth, Anatsui asked guests to more actively strive to emulate the Saviour’s example.
