New inspirational song invites all to “Hear Him”

God still speaks today. This message conveyed in a new song by German songwriter Daniel Kopischke echoes a year-long celebration of a heavenly manifestation held sacred by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A music video of “Hear Him!” was just released on social media.

On a spring morning in 1820, Joseph Smith sought out the serenity of a grove of trees near his parents’ home to pour out his heart in prayer. God’s response to the young farm boy was to “Hear Him” – to listen to and follow Jesus Christ. The lyrics of the new inspirational song quote directly from Joseph Smith’s own account.

“It is amazing to me how the words of a teenager from 200 years ago are still so relatable and applicable today,” Kopischke said. “They can become our personal plea to God to feel connected with Him through good times and bad.” The song was launched 215 years to the day after Joseph Smith was born.

Kopischke holds a teaching degree in special education and began a new job as communication specialist for his Church a few months ago. Music has been his passion for most of his life.

He originally wrote “Hear Him!” back in 2008 while serving as a missionary in the United States.

“I wanted to bring the message across that God still speaks to us today, both personally and through living prophets,” he recounted. “I sat down at a piano and the music came right to me.”

Now married and the father of three, Kopischke remembered this experience again when Church president Russell M. Nelson urged listeners at a worldwide conference earlier this year to consider ways to “Hear Him”. He performed the song to his family every now and then. After a while, his children started singing along.

When a friend and colleague listened to the song, he suggested making it available to a broader audience. Kopischke recorded the music in his home and was subsequently invited to do the vocals at the sound studio of the Church’s European administration building located in Frankfurt am Main.

“It was a fun and first-time experience to sing in a studio and I am glad this project could be accomplished during these uncertain times,” he said. “I hope that all those who hear the song and watch the video can feel that our Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ really know, love and guide us.”

“Hear Him!” can be viewed on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram.
