Love in a Box

The multi-national women’s organisation (Relief Society) of the Cambridge congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently came together to start their Christmas celebrations early by collecting gifts, sweets, toiletries, toys and woollen items to fill seasonally decorated shoeboxes for less fortunate babies, children, teenagers and the elderly in Eastern Europe.

Women from 18 years to over 80 from the USA, China, Brazil, the Philippines, Spain and Britain spent an evening “caring, sharing and giving” to those who have nothing to help them experience a little of the joy that Christmas can bring.

The Children in Distress “Love in a Box” Appeal reaches out to the forgotten, the poorest, those abandoned as terminally or incurably ill and those less abled or living with HIV or AIDS.

By the end of the evening 52 boxes had been filled with simple gifts and treats which will take some Christmas spirit to some who need it most.
