Getting out of bed early on a cold winter’s morning is never easy, but that’s exactly what school aged students from the Dundee Scotland Stake area have been doing this past year when they have been attending early morning scripture study classes called Seminary. In honour of their achievements, 200 students and their families gathered at the annual Seminary and Institute Graduation Ceremony in Dundee where this year the students had the pleasure of being presented with their certificates of achievements and graduation by Councillor Kay Morrison, Deputy Lord Provost for Fife. Along with President Watson, Dundee Church leader, she kindly congratulated all of the students, who then went on to celebrate in style with a dinner dance.
Launched over 100 hundred years ago, the seminary programme has grown into a worldwide system of education and today the Seminary and Institute programmes teach over 700,000 student in 143 different countries. Students study all the canonised scripture of the Church, including the Old and New Testaments, as well as the Book of Mormon. In the Dundee area, there are around 40 seminary students, aged from 14 to 18 years, who mostly participate by attending early morning classes before school starts. Around the same number of institute students attend a regular class at the Centre for Young Single Adults in Dundee.
