More than 35 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (often known as Mormons) in Chesterfield, along with members of the Rotary Club have donated over 200 man hours during the 12 day period of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal to help raise funds in this commemorative centenary year of WW1.

Bishop Mark Hamilton remarked, "We are always pleased to offer helping hands to worthy causes and the Poppy Appeal is our way of saying thank you to those in the armed forces who serve, have served and offered the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom to worship as we choose"
Christine Selden, Community Fundraiser for Derbyshire at the Royal British Legion, stated, "With good organisation, and superb commitment from volunteers, we hope to exceed last years collection total of over £4000.
We would sincerely like to thank every single person who has bought or who will buy a poppy this year and also Tesco Extra Chesterfield for their generosity in hosting the collection for this wonderful cause.
Rotary club members have kindly agreed to perform collections on the Sundays so that the Church members can attend church meetings and we thank them for their support."
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints also laid a wreath on behalf of the Church, at the cenotaph in Chesterfield on Remembrance Sunday at the culmination of the poppy campaign.
Church members are being supported by ex Mayor of Chesterfield, Councillor Peter Barr, who will also be helping with collections. Councillor Barr has become a friend of the Church following recent Helping Hands projects by members in support of the Eyre Chapel Trust.
