Susan Winter of Selby ward has just passed her Grade 8 Piano after taking her Grade 5 Piano exam over 50 years previously. Just months before her 70th Birthday, Susan performed Scarlatti, Schubert and Beethoven to achieve the highest Grade in music examinations – which also awards her UCAS points! Sue has worked for many months to achieve her goal which has been a life time ambition she never quite thought she’d achieve. Susan said: “My husband George was the one who has provided so much encouragement to help me have the confidence to take up the piano again. With regular lessons, a huge amount of practise and Heavenly Father’s support I have managed to achieve something that really was only a dream.”
Sue plans to continue having lessons and is going to do an advanced piano duet exam next. “It’s great to have something to work for – it keeps my mind active and I just love music.” Sue is Selby Ward's Primary Pianist and sacrament meeting organist. Bishop Nathan McNee said:” We are very blessed to have such a talented sister in our ward, Grade 8 is such an achievement and we are so proud of her.” Her piano teacher, Karen Marshall, said:” For sheer hard work and determination, Sue is an example to us all. It has been a privilege to see Sue progress to a level that many people never achieve.”
