St Albans Collect for Refugees

On Saturday 25 February, ‘Herts for Refugees’ under the direction of Sally Robinson and members from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in St Albans came together for a day dedicated to helping refugees in France, Syria and Iraq. Van loads of clothes were donated by members of the Church and volunteers of ‘Herts for Refugees’. All the clothes were brought to the St. Albans chapel and the sorting began at 9am and lasted until about 2pm. There were mountains of clothes. It was a massive undertaking but volunteers from the community and church showed up in droves and the work was completed in the designated time.

Women and children’s clothes will be going to Syria and Iraq this month through ‘Samara’s Aid’; baby and maternity clothes will be going to Syria through ‘High Wycombe Helping Others’; and men’s clothes, toiletries and food will be going to France this week.

Sally Robinson of ‘Herts for Refugees’ commented, “What an incredible morning in St Albans. Volunteers came in huge numbers, with great energy, working together with friends and strangers (new friends!) super quickly, adapting to sorting systems, finding solutions, moving, moving, moving! Just fantastic!” Rob Buddle of the Hitchin congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints remarked, “Many hands made light work and by all our small efforts I'm sure great amounts of help will come to pass.”
