Small and Simple Things - Humanitarian Work in Romania

“One of the keys to ending child poverty is addressing poverty in the household, from which it often stems. Access to quality social services must be a priority.” UN Secretary-General, Mr. António Guterres.

“When the pandemic began in Bucharest, Romania a government-registered charity, Helping Hands-Asociatia Maini Intinse Charity, was suddenly interrupted from their chartered cause. Without protective masks the organizational members could not get necessary supplies. We were able to get protective masks to them. In addition, 30 families were identified that needed basic food and supplies immediately.

“We have partnered with Helping Hands for the past several years to support their humanitarian work with playground equipment, building improvements and now emergency masks for COVID prevention and food supplies. This organization focuses their resources on educational support for 120 socially disadvantaged and handicapped children. The organization also provides counselling to the parents of these children.

“Adrian Popa, Director, Helping Hands has been a humble champion of humanitarian work. He has received support from local government ministries and has a vision to enlarge its facility to serve more children and families in need,” explained Elder Mark Falslev of Latter-day Saint Charities.

“You need to know that we started the month with prayers, asking God to help us this month for 30 families in the COVID crisis. One day later, Elder Mark Falslev called me offering food for families. I give glory to God for answering our prayers. We are blessed to help others.

“We are all God’s children. It does not matter what race, religion, social standing, or position of wealth one individual may hold; God is aware of our efforts and loves us all. With all the confusion and concern in the world, humanitarian work with individuals can make a difference in the community”, offered Adrian Popa, Director, Helping Hands.

“We appreciate the opportunity to work with such great individuals in Romania and see the hand of the Lord for all of us in our struggles. Small and simple things can make a difference in the struggles of life,” continued Elder Falslev.

Latter-day Saint Charities, the humanitarian organization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has partnered with Adrian Popa on several projects over the years, including major Romanian water improvement initiatives in Posta, Tulcea Swamp, and Valea Teillor.
