Sheffield Choir Performs for Deputy Mayor

The Mormon Sheffield Choir were honored by the attendance of the Deputy Lord Mayor of Sheffield Councillor Anne Murphy at their Christmas Music and the Spoken Word concert held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (also known as Mormons) in their Jordanthorpe chapel.

The choir of over 50 people performed some technically challenging pieces including "Noel Nouvelet" a traditional French arrangement by Victoria Larley, as well as "Et in Terra Pax" - Vivaldi Gloria (translated is, And on earth peace, good will toward men)  accompanied by Susan Crowley on cello and Gillian Dyson on violin. Another beautiful piece was "The Infant King" by David Willocks.

The evening also included seven New Testament readings by local members, and singing groups of all ages, including the children's choir who sang a touching performance of "Stars are gleaming".

Following the performance Councillor Murphy spoke to the choir... "It's been a pleasure sitting in the audience and listening to such a fantastic choir, you are amazing!.......it was a great pleasure and a joy to listen to. Thank you.

President Mark Dundon, Church leader for the ten congregations throughout the Sheffield City region, met with Councillor Murphy and discussed the work of volunteer church members in their local community.  He remarked, “As followers of Jesus Christ this wonderful annual event helps us feel the spirit of Christ and Christmas through this beautiful music and Bible readings.”
