On Saturday 9th May, 2015, the grounds of Stockbridge Community Leisure Centre were beautified as part of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Helping Hands Project. Eighteen members of the congregation were able to attend the leisure centre (which is staffed by volunteers) to weed, plant and cut grass. The ages of the Mormon Helping Hands volunteers ranged from 1 to 69 and all worked extremely hard.

Andy Clarke, a spokesman for the leisure centre commented, “I arrived at the Centre this morning to see all the tremendous work your volunteers have done for us. The planters, flower beds, lawns and tidied edges everywhere look fabulous and give the reception entrance a huge lift. It looks fantastic. Well done to all involved and a very grateful thanks from us all.”
Each member donated two hours and felt the spirit of the work. Prayers were answered regarding the weather. It had rained before and after the project but was fine whilst the work was carried out. Plants were obtained from congregation funds, with a substantial discount by the manager of the local B&Q store, which enabled the purchase of extra plants.
The event was organised by Christine Woodley, the local public affairs specialist with her husband David and local leader J Housden.
