Mormon congregations give service in honour of The Queen's Diamond Jubilee

Congregations around the United Kingdom from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints took part in service projects for a National Jubilee Day of Service on Saturday June 2nd.  This day of dedication was to mark the anniversary of The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Year of 2012 and to ‘respect her personal example of Christian service which Her Majesty has rendered on behalf of all her peoples.'

From Dundee to Cardiff and from York to Romford, men, women and children of all ages worked tirelessly to complete projects in local communities donating 2092 hours on the wet and cloudy day.  In Glasgow 34 members attended a project on the Forth and Clyde canal at the Firhill Basin donating 68 hours, whilst in Wandsworth, London 57 men and women completed work on the Stave Hill Ecology Park, a 5.2 acre nature area for wildlife, making insect boxes and creating a mosaic pathway.

In the Welsh city of Cardiff food donations were given to the Salvation Army bus to distribute to the needy and in the historic city of York the cemetery was given a clean up as part of the ongoing plans for the 21 acre site, working with the York Cemetery Volunteers group.  In the Northampton area of the Midlands women aged from 18 years to 85 took part in three local projects including making quilts for premature babies and singing to residents of Argyll House as part of their Open House over the Jubilee Weekend.

In the Coventry area a large crowd of 150 members from local congregations of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints arrived in the town of Warwick to clean up the streets as part of the Spring Clean Up for the Jubilee, organised by Warwick District Council.

The Europe Area Presidency of the Mormon Church stated, ‘May we use this occasion to unite with our fellow citizens in our local communities to honour the service of Her Majesty The Queen and , in the manner of the Saviour, “who went about doing good.”’

Many of the service projects were followed by locally organised Jubilee parties to celebrate the 60 years of The Queen as a Monarch for the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.
