Interfaith Leaders Meet to Support Blood Donors

In an effort to raise public awareness of the need for more blood donors across Scotland, an event was organised at the Blood Donor Centre in Edinburgh, Scotland. The event was attended by Anne Edwards, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who was invited by Shabir Beg, Chairman of the Scottish Ahlul Bayt Society.

The core message, addressed to the people of Scotland was, “We can work together to save lives through blood donations”. It was hoped that the presence of a number of high profile dignitaries, including the Deputy Lord Provost of Edinburgh Council and Councillor Steve Cardownie would add weight to the message.

In order to provide practical help, the LDS Church offered the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Services, the use of Church buildings across the country, free of charge. It was agreed that four chapels would be used as a “pilot” scheme.

Ishrat Hussnain, Vice-Chairwoman of the Scottish Ahlul Bayt Society said to Anne Edwards, “We look very much forward to continue engaging with yourselves, and deepening our shared resolve to collaborate on good works and projects.”
