Family History event draws in hundreds

A local Family History event held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Linthouse Lane, Wednesfield, was a huge success with over 200 people from the local community attending.  The event was supported by The Birmingham Heraldry Society and The Guild of One Name Studies. There were volunteer specialists helping with starting family history, the use of FamilySearch.org, the chance to search parish registers and censuses, the parish chest, organising wills and completing indexing.

Event Organiser Keri Rubery said; “I am so pleased with the turn out from the local community, it is great to be able to share our resources and enable people to search and find their ancestors. I am also very grateful for the attendance of the outside agencies, it is wonderful to be able build links with other Family History organisations.”

Director of Public Affairs for the Lichfield Stake (diocese), Tom King said, "As one of the organisers of the Family History Event, I was very impressed at the huge turnout of people. The level of interest in tracing our ancestors is fantastic and to watch the levels of cooperation across many different organisations was really amazing. Most visitors left with missing pieces of information, new ways of looking and new places to look in the quest for finding out who we are!"

Alec Weeks, stake assistant director of family history, said; “We are grateful for the overwhelming support by the community. It has been a busy event; we even had people waiting at 9.30am for us to open on the Friday.

If the local community require any further help with their Family History, or wish to start then they can call the Family History Centre in Linthouse Lane, Wednesfield, WV11 3EF on  01902 724097 to make an appointment or visit Wednesday 10am-3pm, 7pm-9pm, Thursday and Friday 9.30am-4.30pm
