Church Leaders attend Launch of 'Discover Islam Exhibition'

Ian Govier, regional Church leader from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Merthyr Tydfil and Julie Jones (LDS member of the Interfaith Council for Wales)  attended the launch of the 'Discover Islam Exhibition' at the Senedd (National Assembly for Wales) in Cardiff Bay. They joined Dr. Salim Kidwai OBE (Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Wales), Presiding Officer, Dame Rosemary Butler AM, and other faith and community leaders, who were invited to this lively, informative and thought-provoking exhibition of posters that showcases aspects of Islam and the lives of Muslims which are often not seen or reported.

The previous day, both Julie Jones and President Govier joined members of the Interfaith Council for Wales at Cardiff University in giving evidence to the Commission on Religion and Belief in British Public Life that is being chaired by Baroness Elizabeth Butler-Sloss.

The purpose of the Commission on Religion and Belief in British Public Life is to consider the place and role of religion and belief in contemporary Britain, examine how ideas of Britishness and national identity may be inclusive of a range of religions and beliefs, explore how shared understandings of the common good may contribute to greater levels of mutual trust and collective action, and to a more harmonious society.
