Church hosts York Interfaith Week

A cheerful gathering met to open York Interfaith Week recently with The Rt Hon the Lord Mayor of York, Councillor Sonia Crisp and Civic Party who officially opened the week at the ‘Families Can Be Together Forever’ event at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at West Bank, Acomb.

Interfaith Week is organised by The Interfaith Network for the UK. This is a national body that the Church is also a member of. The shared aim is to ‘build good relations with people of different faiths and beliefs’.

York residents of all ages and from various faiths heard a musical Item from the Stephenson Family, enjoyed a light-hearted multi-media presentation about families and ‘had a go’ at researching their own Family Trees with the help of expert volunteers.

At one point, in the Family History Library, the current Sheriff of York, Brian Smith, was happily introduced to a former Sheriff of York, Church member Steve Barton (1982-83), who serves as a missionary leader in the congregation with the added bonus of Family History expertise.
