Chester and North Wales offer Helping Hands Service in the Community

Members from several congregations in the Chester area of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints joined forces to complete Helping Hands service projects to benefit the communities in which they live.

At Blacon Adventure Playground, volunteers (including families and children) repainted a large play barn interior, cleared litter and painted fences. Gary Miller, a Play Leader at the Playground commented: “I’m really grateful to the members of the Church that turned up today, and literally brightened the place up by providing a much-needed repaint to the barn.”

Thirty four volunteers from Porthmadog created a new path for visitors to Gwaith Powdwr Nature Reserve in Penrhyndeudraith, by cutting back brambles, levelling earth, and clearing stones. Others painted wooden railing and collected rubbish from the beach, giving wildlife a safer habitat.

The meeting house in Rhyl saw volunteers packing five hundred hygiene kits for refugees with items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, plasters, soap, combs, facecloths and tissues. The kits were donated to two refugee charities based in North Wales.

At Brickfields Park, Helping Hands volunteers cut back brambles and thorny branches and used them to make a wildlife “habitat hedge”, whilst others cleared litter from the site. The hedges create an important habitat for insects which attract other wildlife to the area. They also serve as a wind barrier for fishermen.

All involved in the projects enjoyed the opportunity to reach out and give help to members of their communities.
