Weeks after devastating floods hit the north of England and long after the newspapers ceased reporting, the work of clearing up the mud and mess continues.
The Calder valley lies in the Halifax congregation boundaries and members responded magnificently to help clean up wherever help was needed. Many towns and villages along the Calder valley had been flooded as a result of the unprecedented amount of rain that fell at the end of December.

In the middle of February members of Huddersfield 1st congregation continued the good work started by Halifax members by helping people and businesses wash away mud, silt and filth left by the deluge from six weeks previously.
Mr David Morton, who runs a pressure washing business with his sons, has spent days and weeks volunteering his equipment and expertise in both the York and Calderdale area to help people who have been affected by the floods. He said, “I just like to help people and in particular those who struggle to manage by themselves for whatever reason.” He described the Latter-day Saints that he has often worked with as “simply marvellous”.
