The free and confidential recovery groups, which are not limited to Church members, are available virtually worldwide and in person in some locations. They are led by service missionaries. Groups also have facilitators who are living in recovery and desire to support others who want to heal. Addiction recovery meetings are held in 42 countries and in 31 languages. Virtual and in-person meeting times and locations are listed on addictionrecovery.ChurchofJesusChrist.org.
When asked about her experience with the addiction recovery programme, a sister from Europe said, “I have shared part of my life with an alcoholic. Initially, I believed that if I loved, understood, and supported my spouse enough, he would become sober… I grew weary and felt despair.” She continued, “From the first session, I felt trust in the atmosphere. The Church’s course centred on Jesus Christ’s immense love… As we prayed together, I felt the miracle of forgiveness and received new strength from God. Jesus Christ is the great Healer, and He heals the wounds of the soul… I highly recommend [The Addiction Recovery Programme] to anyone suffering from addiction.”
Finding Strength in the Lord
The Church’s addiction recovery programme is about supporting and connecting with each other in overcoming addiction, but it’s also about connecting with the Saviour, Jesus Christ. He wants to help us in our trials, and He is the source of healing.
“The Saviour is keenly aware of all of our trials and struggles,” said Ben Erwin, a Family Services therapist who manages the addiction recovery programme. “When we gather to support each other in overcoming this challenge through Him, my experience is that He is there with us.”
